To improve appearance, teeth sometimes require more tooth material than is available under the gumline. In these situations, your dentist may recommend a procedure that extends the crown, modifying the surrounding tissue to expose additional healthy tooth material.
This procedure involves your dentist reaching under the gumline and increasing the amount of exposed tooth material, usually by modifying the surrounding bone and tissue, effectively lengthening the tooth. The area is then sutured and allowed to heal. You will return for follow-up care after about 10 days, during which your dentist will remove the sutures and review the healing process. Upon completion, the area is now restored to its optimal appearance.
