An onlay is used to rebuild a tooth that has damage to one or more cusp. This treatment helps to restore optimal shape and function while saving as much of the natural tooth as possible. Also, it will generally last longer than a large filling.
With a CAD/CAM onlay, a computer takes an image of your tooth in 3-D, which helps in designing the restoration. This technology makes it possible for your doctor to complete your onlay in a single appointment.
First, your tooth is prepared for the onlay.
Next, the tooth is scanned, and the onlay is created in your doctor’s office while you wait.
Your doctor will make final adjustments and bond the onlay into place.
Your tooth is restored to optimal shape and function, and much of the natural tooth structure has been saved.
