What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign® treatment is one of the newest ways to straighten your teeth. Using digital 3D imaging technology, the dentist makes several invisible mouth guards (also called aligners) for orthodontics. You wear each aligner for about two weeks before it is replaced with the next invisible mouthguard. In this way, your teeth are pushed a little further towards the intended final position. The treatment duration and the number of mouth guards depend on your initial situation and the desired end result. The dentist can provide you an estimate of this in advance.

The advantages of invisible braces

  • Ensures that your teeth become straight again

  • Is easy to keep clean

The braces are removable and, as a result, easy to keep clean. You only have to rinse them under the tap and brush the difficult-to-reach places with your toothbrush.

  • They are very comfortable

Invisalign® gradually corrects the position of your teeth. So you don’t have that pulling feeling in the beginning that you get with regular braces. The brace will be a bit awkward at first, but you will get used to it after a few days.

  • Shows the result in advance

Thanks to unique 3D technology, you can see the end results in advance. We explain each step in the process so that you know precisely how your teeth will look with the different aligners.

In addition, with Invisalign® invisible braces, you can exercise worry-free, and you can continue to eat everything you want. The removable, invisible braces correct your teeth with minimal impact on your daily life.

The costs of Invisalign®

The final costs depend on the duration of the treatment. During an initial consultation with the dentist for orthodontics, it will become clear what the situation in your mouth is and how long you have to wear the brace. On this basis, a treatment plan will be drawn up and the final costs will become clear.

Reimbursement from health insurance

Health insurers view Invisalign® as a cosmetic choice and not as a medical necessity. Many insurers therefore do not offer reimbursement for invisible braces. If you have additional insurance for orthodontics, you may be reimbursed for the consultation costs. The technical costs of Invisalign® are almost always at your own expense. Unfortunately, these costs are the largest part of the final bill.

There are some insurers that will reimburse Invisalign® if there is a medical need for orthodontics. Talk to your health insurer about this. Please contact Lassus Tandartsen if you need more information for possible reimbursement.

Intake & treatment

The treatment process always starts with an intake interview with our dentist for orthodontics at Apollolaan 174 in Amsterdam.

1.      Intake interview

During the intake interview, the dentist for orthodontics will discuss your wishes and expectations with you. The situation in your mouth is then examined and the dentist determines how Invisalign® can help you get beautiful, straight teeth again.

2.      Treatment plan

Based on the information from the intake interview, a personal treatment plan is drawn up This plan states how often you must return for a check-up, how long you must wear the invisible brace and what the costs are for the entire process. Once you agree to the treatment plan, we will start.

In addition, Invisalign® will provide you with a simulation of the entire treatment process. You will then see exactly how your teeth will move to achieve beautiful teeth.

3.      Create invisible braces

The orthodontic dentist makes an impression of your teeth. This is done with an impression tray or with a modern mouth scanner. We make several custom brackets based on the impression. You will wear each brace for about two weeks before it is replaced by the next in the series. With every new brace you are one step closer to the desired end result.

4. Placement of the bracket

The dentist will contact you when the braces are ready. During a consultation in one of our dental practices, we will check if the brace fits properly. We will show you how to click the invisible braces in and out and how to clean the Invisalign®.

5.      Periodic checkups

You have an appointment every month for a periodic check-up. During the check-up we check whether progress is as expected and whether the treatment is proceeding without problems. The dentist may also need to change some pressure points in the Invisalign®.

6.      After treatment

After the treatment you will have beautiful, straight teeth. To ensure that this remains the case, we place a retainer behind your teeth that ensures that the teeth stay in place. The costs for the retainer are included in the price of the brace.

How Invisalign® works

Invisalign® is a virtually invisible way to straighten teeth. A series of invisible braces are made based on the current situation in your mouth and the desired result. Each subsequent brace in the series brings you one step closer to the desired end result. How many invisible braces are needed and how long your treatment lasts depends on your wishes and the condition of your teeth.

Invisalign® invisible braces move teeth through a series of precisely controlled movements. Invisalign® braces not only control the movement of the teeth, but also take timing into account. Only a few teeth can move at each stage. This method ensures that you experience less discomfort from Invisalign® braces than from regular braces.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Invisalign® treatment painful?

Some people experience a feeling of pressure when wearing the brace. This usually occurs when you use a new aligner. This is normal and a sign that the brace is doing its job. The oppressive feeling often goes away after a few days.

How long does a treatment take with Invisalign?

The duration of the treatment is comparable to that of normal braces. This means that it mainly depends on the initial situation and the desired end result. During a consultation, the orthodontic dentist can tell you more about how long you should wear the brace.

Can I eat and drink everything with an Invisalign brace?

Yes. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign braces can easily be removed from the mouth to eat and drink. So there are no restrictions on what you can eat or drink.

How long should I wear the Invisalign brace each day?

Our advice is to wear the Invisalign brace for at least 22 hours a day. The longer you wear the brace, the faster the treatment.
